Warner Bros recently showcased some official gameplay for Avalanche Software’s upcoming Wizarding World Action/RPG Hogwarts Legacy during Sony’s State of Play Livestream. During this fans were treated to exclusive gameplay, a tentative release window of Holiday 2022 and some exciting new information on the highly anticipated title.
Here are 10 things you need to know…
# 1 – The game is not set in present day so don’t expect to see Harry, Ron or Hermione hanging out at Hogwarts – it’s set in 1890 so will be feature a largely new cast of characters – this is before even the Fantastic beasts series…however some familiar faces were spied, including Nearly-Headless Nick among others…
#2 – Players will get to create their very own Hogwarts student, choosing their gender, voice, appearance and even wand type to enjoy a customized entirely single-player experience.
#3 – The sorting hat will play some part in allocating the player’s house, so fans will be able to support their favorites from the series. Whether they choose the noble Gryffindor, sinister Slytherin, wise Ravenclaw or the studious Hufflepuff, the selected house will give access to the relevant common room which may act as a base of sorts as players explore the world.
#4 – Players will not be playing as a new student starting their Hogwarts careers – their character is joining the historic school in 5th Year so will have plenty of catching up to do to get up to speed with their peers!
#5 – School is in session – fans will get to experience legendary Hogwarts classes including Herbology, Defense Against the Dark Arts and Potions – hopefully these will act as a means of levelling up your character as your knowledge grows.
#6 – Fantastic Beasts – during your time at Hogwarts, players will have interactions with loads of the mythical creatures familiar to Harry Potter fans including Trolls, Dragons and Hippogriffs – just how these interactions will pan out remains to be seen…
#7 – Familiar locations will be fully explorable – not just within the school grounds either – confirmed so far are Hogsmeade Village, The Great Lake and Forbidden Forest, Diagon Alley and The Ministry of Magic. We don’t know just how open the Wizarding World will be to explore, but the scope seems to be massive!
#8 – Glimpses of the story were revealed during the gameplay reveal – the player character has access to some unknown ancient magic that puts them at the center of a goblin rebellion. It promises epic magic based combat as students duel with one another, fight magical beasts and the Dark Wizards that have teamed up with the goblin rebels.
#9 – It may not quite be full blown Quidditch but players have been promised broom racing as one of the many activities they can participate in around Hogwarts – the prospect of zooming through the corridors and around the school grounds is definitely an exciting one!
#10 – The gameplay featured so far looks stunning, pushing the Unreal Engine to its limits with hugely varied locales, expressive characters and endlessly rich flora and fauna which all serve to bring the Wizarding World to life.
We’re very excited to see more from Hogwarts Legacy and to get confirmation of the exact release date. So far it looks set to be one of the biggest releases of the year!
